The Association of British Science Writers has been running an awards scheme since 1966. The ABSW Science Writers' Awards seek to set standards of excellence in science writing across eight categories; in addition, in conjunction with BBC Radio Science, an award has been introduced to identify a New Voice each year (previously known as the Young Broadcaster Award). The Parliamentary Science Communicator of the Year Award is now in its second year, and a new award is being presented this year, supported by the BioIndustry Association (BIA), for the best writing on a healthcare bioscience subject.
The awards of £2,000 each are presented to the writers and broadcasters who have, in the opinion of an independent judging panel, produced the highest quality science journalism each year, and highlighted important issues accurately and with flair. |
